Advanced Corrosion Control and Cathodic Protection Mastery

Course Intorduction

This course is designed to provide participants with a knowledge in corrosion control, mitigations and cathodic protection fundamentals. It provides theoretical knowledge and fundamentals of corrosion, types of corrosion, methods of corrosion control and mitigation by sacrificial and impressed current cathodic protection systems for buried structure, with emphasis in Storage T anks, and T erminals.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • T o know the basis of corrosion mechanisms, recognize the nature of corrosion, forms of corrosion and the various effects of soil conditions
  • T o acknowledge the different types of corrosion in soils, nature of soils, and know what is a corrosive soil
  • T o identify the associated aspects of corrosion control and mitigation such as the materials selection, coatings and cathodic protection including its design, types, selection and fabrication
  • T o identify the types of cathodic protection by sacrificial anodes and impressed current, protection criteria, advantages, disadvantages, and applications
  • T o identify and manage corrosion problems in Storage T anks & T erminals, including the use of cathodic protection, vapor phase corrosion inhibitors and corrosion modeling and monitoring
